Kody Brown is saying goodbye to the home where his once-plural marriage came crumbling down.

During a new episode of Sister Wives on Oct. 12, the Brown family patriarch opened up about he and his wife Robyn selling their Flagstaff, Ariz., home — which served as the backdrop for many scenes throughout the TLC series — so that they can move into a bigger abode on the other side of the city.

Amid all the packing and loading furniture into their moving truck, Kody gets candid about how the home holds a lot of “pain” for him, as it’s where his once-plural marriage to former wives Christine, Meri and Janelle all came to an end.

“This house had a series of sad events. First of all, I started breaking up with my family. I get Covid. Christine leaves,” he says of his first wife to exit the polygamous marriage in November 2021.

“And then, this is where I got the news of Garrison’s passing,” he says, recalling the tragic news of his and Janelle’s son Garrison Brown dying by suicide in March 2024. “This place has pain in it,” he adds.

While standing next to Robyn outside of their home, Kody admits, “I’m just excited to leave. I’m very, very excited. I feel serenity at the other place. The peace that I’ve been looking for, I think.”

He also reflects on the “heartache” he and Robyn experienced at the house after Christine left, followed by Meri and Janelle, who announced their separation from Kody within 14 months of Christine’s departure.

“We experienced a lot of heartache here. This is where my heart broke, right here. We want a new beginning. Something different, something new. So much has changed,” he says.

In a confessional-style clip, Robyn opens up about what she personally experienced at the home when she learned her former sister wives were leaving.

“I was in a deep, deep depression in this house while the splits were happening. While the divorces were happening. Every split was happening while we were living in this hashknife house,” she says.

The scene then cuts to Christine’s reaction to Kody and Robyn’s decision to sell their home.

“I just found out from a random stranger, like online, about Kody and Robyn selling their house,” she says. “And I just didn’t believe it at all.”

She continues: “Kody probably has a lot of hard memories in that house. He had three wives leave him while he lived in that house. And yeah, it’s his and Robyn’s home, and it was just them inside. But think about all the conversations they had and all the hard times that he had in different rooms of that house. All the frustration and anger that he felt in the house.”

Christine notes that the more she reflected on Kody and Robyn’s time in that home, the clearer it became to her why they wanted to leave it behind them.

“I think it’s a good idea for him to move. Move and be done with that. Close that door, start another chapter, a whole other life with Robyn, and just move on. I think the more we’re talking about it, the more it makes sense to me,” she concludes.

PEOPLE previously reported on Kody and Robyn listing the Flagstaff home for $1.7 million in August 2024. According to property records, they first purchased the home in 2019 for $890,000, and ended up selling it for $1.8 million in November 2024.

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
