The Referees Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has assigned the refereeing of the match between Egypt and Benin in the quarter-finals of the 2025 African Cup of Nations to Gabonese referee Pierre-Ghislain Acho, who is scheduled to blow the starting whistle at exactly (17:00) Moroccan time, at (19:00) Egypt time, at the “Adara” stadium in the Moroccan city of Agadir.

The Egyptian national team topped the list of Group Two with 7 points, after achieving two consecutive victories over Zimbabwe (2-1) and South Africa (1-0) compared to a goalless draw against Angola.

The Pharaohs team holds the record for winning the African Football Cup seven times in the years: (1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, 2010) and is searching for the eighth title that has been long-awaited for 15 years.

While the Benin national team qualified for the round of 16 of the African Championship currently being held in Morocco, after occupying third place in its group with 3 points, obtained from a victory over Botswana, compared to two losses to Senegal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

History of confrontations between Egypt and Benin:

Monday’s match is considered the fifth between Egypt and Benin, as the “Pharaohs” team previously won on three occasions, compared to an exciting draw that ended with a score of (3-3) in June 2004.

Egyptian national team players scored 14 goals against the “Squirrels”, while the “Pharaohs” scored 5 goals from Benin players.

The winner of the match between Egypt and Benin will play in the quarter-finals with the winner of the confrontation that will bring together the defending champions, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), and Burkina Faso, which will bring them together next Tuesday, in Marrakesh.

Egypt coach: Facing Benin as the final of the African Nations
