The International Fencing Federation Allows Young Russian Athletes To Participate In International Competitions With Their National Symbols

Mamedov explained in a statement to the Match TV channel that this decision came after discussing the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee at the executive meeting of the International Fencing Federation, which in turn called for not imposing restrictions on the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in youth competitions, whether individual or team, and also allowed them to appear with national symbols, including the flag and the anthem.

Mamedov said: “Today we received information from the International Fencing Federation that the recommendations previously announced by the International Olympic Committee were discussed in the Federation’s Executive Committee.”

He added that the Russian Fencing Federation received a document confirming that emerging athletes (youth) from Russia will be able, starting in 2026, to participate in international competitions under the flag of their country and singing the national anthem.

When asked about the first occasion in which Russian juniors will appear in this capacity, the President of the Russian Federation indicated that the epee fencing team will travel to the United Arab Emirates before the end of this year, adding: “As far as I know, the Russian epee team will travel to the Emirates around New Year’s Eve, and is scheduled to participate in competitions to be held on January 1 and 2 next.”
