The actress focuses on a mix of strength training, boxing, and bodyweight exercises, revealing in March that she’s pulled back on the cardio to focus on lifting weights.

‘I used to do a lot of cardio,’ she told author and menopause advocate Tamsen Fadal.

The X-Men star explained that she is now focusing on building muscle mass as she enters menopause.

‘I never used to lift weights before,’ she revealed. ‘I only did my own body weight and cardio like cycling and running.’

Although the mom-of-two admitted she does find it ‘boring,’ she knows it’s what her body needs right now.

‘It’s necessary for this stage of life, really just heavier weights than I’ve ever lifted, and I do it probably two days a week at least,’ she shared in the interview.

Berry has worked out with personal trainer Barry Lee Thomas for almost a decade – often sharing glimpses of her grueling workouts to social media.

In 2023, Halle shared a video of a ‘simple dumbbell workout’ to Instagram, which consists of six exercises that she completes across six to eight reps.

She started with frog squats and skipping with a jump rope to warm up, before moving into the fast – but furious – workout.

The workout consists of:

  • V-ups with a dumbbell overhead press
  • Jumping jacks and a burpee
  • Jump squat and a  dumbbell overhead press
  • V tucks + dumbbell overhead press

According to Thomas, Berry’s dedication is a large part of what has kept her trim figure over the years.

‘She’s one of those special individuals who, even if she has one to two hours of sleep, she’ll get work done,’ he told Us Weekly in October 2018.

He added that no matter which exercise she does, her goal is always ‘make sure we get a really good sweat.’

Berry, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in her 20s, said she began to see ‘fitness as a way to care for my health and my body’ after her diagnosis, rather than about body image.

‘Sugar is the enemy,’ she declared. ‘You couldn’t put anything sweet in front of me right now and pay me to eat it. I’m just not interested.’

The fitness guru also swears by a keto diet, particularly to help manage her diabetes.

‘I wanted to get off of insulin, so I decided to say goodbye to processed carbs and sugar like baked goods and white bread — and it has seriously paid off,’ she told Women’s Health in 2020.

‘For more than 15 years, eating this way has helped me manage my diabetes, but it’s also given me a ton of energy and helped me maintain my weight and stay in shape.’
