A Global Company Recalls Thousands Of Cars Due To A Serious Defect In The Airbags
uaetodaynews.com — A global company recalls thousands of cars due to a serious defect in the airbags
This announcement comes after the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed on Saturday that airbags may rupture when inflated, which may prevent them from providing the necessary protection, and may in some cases lead to a hot gas leak that causes burns to passengers.
The recall includes 20,999 cars from 2021 to 2025 models, all of which are the Range Rover Evoque SUV, which were manufactured at the company’s factory in Halewood, United Kingdom, between July 10, 2020 and October 7, 2024.
Although no accidents or injuries related to the problem have been recorded so far, the company urges owners to contact authorized dealers for a free repair.
The defect was first noticed in May 2023, during safety tests, where technicians noticed abnormal openings in the airbag when it inflated. An internal investigation that extended for months revealed that the problem was caused by a defect in the way the airbags were folded during the assembly process, which increased the possibility of their rupture during operation.
On June 30, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover officially confirmed the existence of this defect, and submitted a detailed report to NHTSA, in which it indicated that the affected airbags were manufactured by Joyson Safety Systems Hungary, a global company specializing in safety systems.
The company explained that its agents will replace the airbag unit free of charge. Sales and maintenance agents will be notified no later than July 21, and the company will begin sending letters to owners starting August 29, 2025.
Jaguar Land Rover also said that customers who have previously paid repair costs related to the defect may be eligible for a refund.
Owners can check whether their vehicles are included in this recall by entering the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website or through the official Jaguar Land Rover portal.
This recall comes just days after Ford announced a warning about a possible defect in some engines, making it the second major recall within a week in the automotive sector.
Jaguar Land Rover is also facing additional scrutiny in the United States, after NHTSA in late June opened a separate investigation covering more than 90,000 vehicles produced by the company, due to faults in the steering joint that could lead to wheel separation.
The company confirmed its full commitment to fixing all defects without charging customers any additional costs.
